Lumberjacks -Hawks Advance

Cloquet-Esko-Carlton and Hermantown have both advanced to the Section 7A Semifinals after wins in boys high school soccer on Saturday.

CEC advanced by beating a higher seed, Big Lake, 3-1after scoring three first half goals and then hanging on for the victory.

Hermantown also advanced after a 7-0 throttling of Proctor in a game that saw the Hawks score five second half goals.

In the CEC win over Big Lake, the Jacks got first half goals from Ben Pietsch in the first minute, Logan Liimatainen in the seventh minute and then Pietsch again on a penalty kick later in the half.

The lone Big Lake goal cam in the 64th minute, but the Jacks were able to ride strong defense and the goaltending of Halen Danielson to the win.

In Hermantown’s win over Proctor both Daniel Hedstrom and Ali Alwan scored in the first half to build a 2-0 lead. That lead exploded in the second half when Hermantown scored four goals in three minutes. In the 46th minute it was Noah Hooey scoring. In the 47th minute it was Siji Gonzalez scoring and then in the 49th minute it was back-to-back goals by Gonzalez to make it 6-0. Finally in the 69th minute it was Parker Simmons ramming home the final goal of the game to give the Hawks a 7-0 win.
