Hunters Squeak By Lumberjacks In OT

The Duluth Denfeld Hunters and Cloquet Lumberjacks hit the ice on Thursday night in a game that would require an overtime periods. The Hunters found themselves on the winning end when the final horn sounded, winning 4-3 in overtime.

The closely contested game didn’t kick off the scoring until the second period when CEC’s Dylan Johnson scored a power play goal 5 minutes into the period to give the Lumberjacks the 1-0 lead. Johnson scored again, 5 minutes later, making it a 2-0 advantage for CEC. At the 16 minute mark, Trevor Inman put the Lumberjacks up 3-0 with a goal of his own.

The Hunters would come storming back in the third period. Zach Thompson kicked it off with an unassisted goal a minute and a half into the period to cut into the Lumberjack lead, making it 3-1. Ian Dahl then made it 3-2 just 2 minutes later, scoring during a power play for the Hunters. And a minute and a half later, Dylan Skorich knotted it up, 3-3, with an unassisted goal to ensure an overtime period.

5 minutes into overtime, Adam Shykes scored for the Hunters, sealing the 4-3 victory.

River Alander stopped an impressive 40 shots in the win for the Hunters, while Eric Newman blocked 26 in the loss for CEC.

The Duluth Denfeld Hunters extend their winning streak to 3 games and improve to 9-7-1 on the season. They will be back in action on January 16th when they travel to play Blake. The Lumberjacks fall in their 4th straight game, while falling to 9-10 on the year. They will look to bounce back on January 15th when they host Roseau.
