Esko outlast Hermantown

The Esko Eskomos opened up their 2013 season with a 3-2 win over Hermantown in girls volleyball action Tuesday night at Esko High School. The Eskomos started the season with the unbeaten Hawks who had opened up the season with a win over Marshal last week.

The Eskomos would come from behind twice Tuesday night as they tied the match ay 1-1 and 2-2, before the Eskomos won the third and final game of the match.

ESKOVOLLEYBALL

The Hawks opened up the first game with an very impressive 25-13 win in game one of the match. Esko bounced right back with their very own impressive win in game two as the won 25-15 over Hermantown.

The Hawks took a 2-1 lead with another 25-13 win over Esko, and for the second time on the night Esko came back with a 25-21 win in the fourth game of the match and tied it all up as they would go to the fifth game of the match, and it was Esko prevailing as the Eskomos won 15-7 to take the match 3-2.

Leading the way for Esko was Courtney Johnson who finished with 24 set assists and 7 digs on the night, Christaia Houser added 12 kills and she also contributed with 6 ace serves for the Eskomos. Molly Trapp finished with 8 Blocks and Hailey Salo added 6 kills.

The Hawks were led by Emily Neumann who had 28 set assists and 9 digs in the loss, Kaitlyn Paczynski had 11 kills, while it was Carly Hansen who finished with 7 kills, Hailey Menzel also added 5 kills, and it was Kelsey Mayry who ended with 8 digs for Hermantown

The Eskomos start 1-0 and they will be back in action next Thursday when the Eskomos will host Silver Bay in a Polar League match-up. The Hawks fall to 1-1 overall on the season and they will face Duluth East next Tuesday night at home.
