The last time the Duluth Denfeld Hunters beat the Duluth East Greyhounds in girl basketball, it was 2001. The Hunters snapped the 28 game and 15 year losing skid against the Greyhounds on Friday night, edging Duluth East 49-46. This also snapped Duluth Easts 51-game winning streak over Duluth opponents.

The Hunters led by 23-20 when the halftime buzzer sounded. The closely contested game remained neck and neck through the final whistle as Denfeld and East each scored 26 in the second half to make it a 49-46 final in favor of the Hunters.

Leading the way for the Hunters was Eva Reinertsen who notched 20 points. Ashley Taipale and Grace Kirk each hit double digits in the win with 12 and 10 points respectively. Rounding out the scoring for the Hunters was Jordyn Nelson with 4, Ashley Larson with 2, and Gabby Nordman with 1.

In the loss for the Greyhounds, Erin Teichroew had 12 points and Annie Reichhoff had 10. Ashley Williams pitched in 7, Jada Olson and Miia Marple each had 4, Maggie Leider and Allison Boerboom tallied 3 each, and Libby Johnson added 2.

The Hunters move to 4-6 on the season and will look to improve on that when they host the Barnum Bombers on January 11th. The Greyhounds fall to 2-11 on the year and will look to bounce back when they host Andover on January 9th.
