Esko beats Cloquet-Carlton in Girls Soccer

Esko knocks off Cloquet-Carlton in Girls Soccer

The Esko Eskomos after being upset by the Proctor Rails last week in girls soccer action rebounded Tuesday afternoon as the Eskomos defeated the defending section champions Cloquet Lumberjacks by a score of 2-1.

Esko who lost in the section finals last season gained some revenge with the huge victory on Tuesday. The Eskomos who split the regular season match-ups a year ago saw themselves jump out in front at the 22nd minute mark when Ava Gonsorowski scored the first goal of the game with an assist from Bailey Mudek.

The Lumberjacks tied the match six minutes later when Kayla Baker scored to tie the match at 1-1. Maija Doran assisted on the Baker goal. The contest remained tied up until the 72nd minute of the second half when Esko’s Bailey Mudek scored the game winning goal as the Eskomos evened their season record at 1-1 with the one goal victory.

DeAhna Kulas was the winning goalkeeper as she finished with 8 saves in the Eskomos win. Emily Conner finished with 7 saves for Cloquet-Carlton who fall to 0-2 on the season.

Esko will be back in action on Thursday when they look to move to 2-1 on the season as they will host section rival Princeton at home. The Lumberjacks will look to pick up their first win of the season on Saturday when they face Holy Angels at home at 1:00 pm.
