The Floodwood Polar Bears lost a heartbreaker to the Isle Huskies on Friday night, falling 42-36.

Isle got the scoring started, when Trevor Oswald plunged in from 3 yards out, giving the Huskies a 6-0 lead. Floodwood responded with a 2 yard run from Jonah Schnortz. Riley Bernsdorf connected with Johnny Ruzynzki on the 2 point conversion to give the Polar Bears the 8-6 lead at the end of the 1st quarter.

Schnortz would score again for Floodwood, this time from 1 yard out, to give the Polar Bears a 14-6 lead early in the 2nd quarter. But Isle came storming back, when Oswald connected with Blake Zortman on a 40 yard touchdown, with Zortman also converting the 2 points, to notch it up at 14-14. Oswald would find the end zone again for Isle, from 3 yards out, giving the Huskies a 20-14 lead at the half.

In the 3rd quarter, Oswald continued to torch the Polar Bears defense, finding the end zone from 9 yards out. Noah Petty converted the 2 point conversion, boosting the score to 28-14.

In the 4th quarter, Floodwood would respond when Kyle Tamminen caught a 37 yard pass from Bernsdorf. Bernsdorf would connect with Ruzynski for the 2 points once again to cut into the Isle lead and put the score at 28-22. But Oswald would find the end zone on his 4th rushing TD of the game, this one from 2 yards out. He would then connect with Zortman to convert the 2 point conversion, putting the lead at 36-22. Floodwood wouldn’t go away though, as Bernsdorf and Schnortz hooked up for a 67 yard pass. With the 2 point conversion good on a pass from Bernsdorf to Ruzynski, the lead was cut to 36-30. Floodwood would go to tie it up at 36-36 when Bernsdorf found Tanner Heggedahl on the short pass. Isle would steal the victory though, when Zortman rushed his way to the end zone from 47 yards out, to win the game 42-36.

Floodwood falls to 4-3 on the year and will travel to play Lake of the Woods (0-7) next Wednesday at 6:00PM. Isle improves to 4-3 on the season.
