On Monday night, things kicked off in earnest for the Cloquet-Esko-Carlton boy’s soccer team. The Lumberjacks participated in the Lake Superior Conference jamboree at Public School’s Stadium and came away with a 4-0 win over Proctor.

“We got off to a fast start,” mentioned CEC coach Archie Clark. “With only two 20-minute halves, we scored twice in each half.”

In the first half, the Jacks picked up goals from Dan Toivenen and Nick Anderson, while Landen Straub and Jake Stainbrook pumped in tally’s in the second stanza.

“Our goalies Derek Schrecengost and Jared Weeks each played a half and between them made a total of 3 saves,” commented Clark. “The Proctor goalie made 8 saves.”

The start, while only in a jamboree setting, was a good one for the Jacks.

“All in all it was a good way to start the season and it gives us promise that we can score some goals,” Clark said. “Our biggest job at the start will be to see if our defense can get on, and stay on, the same page. They have done very well so far.”
