NSO – NEWS RELEASE

DULUTH, Minn. (csssaints.com) – The St. Scholastica football team held an early lead in front of a nice Homecoming crowd at Public Schools Stadium on Saturday, but fell to Carleton College 30-14 in Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (MIAC) action.

How it Happened
After the Knights (5-1, 3-1 MIAC) got a 30-yard field goal on their opening possession, the Saints responded on the ensuing possession with a couple timely quarterback draws from Byron Bishop (Sublimity, Ore./Regis HS), as well as, a 22-yard reception to Mitchell Adrian (Altoona, Wis./Altoona HS). The drive culminated with a one-yard touchdown plunge by Nick Schlender (Stillwater, Minn./Stillwater HS). The Kyle Oswald (Mahtomedi, Minn./Mahtomedi HS) extra point gave the Saints a 7-3 lead.

Carleton responded right back going 70 yards down the field and scoring on a five-yard touchdown run to make it 10-7. It remained 10-7 until late in the first half. Carleton took over with just over five minutes remaining in the half and after getting one first down, would be forced to a fourth-and-one at midfield.

After a pair of timeouts, the Knights lined up in punt formation, but faked it with a run up the middle and appeared to be stopped just short, before one final lunge was enough for the first down. Carleton converted another fourth down on the drive and ultimately scored with two seconds left in the half to make it 17-7.

After the Knights made it 23-7 early in the third, the Saints found the end zone again as Bishop took it himself on fourth-and-goal at the one to make it 23-14.

With the score the same entering the fourth quarter, a strip sack by the Knights gave them a short field, which they capitalized on to make it 30-14. The Saints would not threaten the rest of the way as they fell by a 30-14 final.
