The Carlton Lady Bulldogs softball team lost on Friday to Hill City mostly due to poor hitting. On Tuesday, the Bulldogs rebounded for a ten-run shutout over the McGregor Mercuries in Carlton.

“We came back after not hitting,” head coach Brooke Lee told Northland Sports Online. “We didn’t hit well for two games. It cost us our first loss last Friday night…We had a good hitting practice yesterday and it paid off tonight!”

The Bulldogs beat McGregor in five innings. April Broneak was stellar on the mound for Carlton, pitching a one hitter for the Bulldogs. Broneak struck out three Mercury batters while walking on one batter.

Offensively, the Bulldogs hit the ball well. They were led by Melissa Clark who was 3-for-3 with two doubles. Megan Nelson was 3-for-4 with 3 RBIs. McKinzie Belanger and Megan Bodin each had two hits for Carlton. Clarissa Nelson had 4 RBIs on a bases loaded single and an outfield error, and Alanna Groth added a triple in the win.

The Bulldogs improve to 4-1 on the season and are in action again on Friday afternoon when they face Barnum at Johnson Field in Barnum. The Mercuries fall to 4-2 on the season and they will face Hill City on Thursday.
