BARNUM- The Barnum Bomber softball team won a pair of games Monday afternoon, still remaining perfect on the season. The Bombers beat the AlBrook Falcons 2-1 in the opening game, and then shot down the Moose Lake-Willow River Rebels 10-1 in a make-up game from last Friday.

In the first contest on Monday it was Katie Myhre who pitched a three hitter for the Bombers. She gave up one run that was unearned in the victory. Myhre also finished with 10 strikeouts on the afternoon. Claire Rodgers had three hits and scored the winning run in the fifth inning off a triple and an error. Ariel Morris tripled and scored the only Falcon run. The loss by Albrook was the first of the season, with their record falling to 2-1.

“This is a great test for us today,” head coach Randy Myhre told Northland Sports Online. “Playing two games in the same day against two good teams will be a good measuring stick for us…Facing two tough pitchers is nice to see as our batters will face two different styles and it’s all about improving game by game.”

In the Tuesday’s game it was a 10-hit attack by the Bombers to break open the game early, scoring runs in every inning except one. The Bombers had two three-run innings, which created too much distance for the Rebels to overcome. Jessica Newman went 3-for-4 for the Bombers and scored 2 runs. Allainie Hanek-Siltanen Added 2 hits, scored 3 runs and drove in three runs in the win.

Katrina Newman was the winning pitcher, giving up only one hit and one unearned run. Newman also showed her dominance on the mound by striking out fourteen Rebel batters. Newman also had a triple and a run batted in for Barnum.

The Bombers improve to 5-0 on the season and are in action again Tuesday at Floodwood. The Rebels fall to 2-1 on the season and they will face Cromwell on Tuesday.
