Carlton Baseball Positioned to Make A Run

The Carlton Boys baseball team has been having an up and down season so far this year. The Bulldogs are right in the middle of the Polar League standings as they enter into a Polar League match up on Thursday against Floodwood. Head Coach Scott Battaglia and his assistants Tim Battaglia and Dustin Finlayson have Carlton playing some good ball and they are seeking to improve on their 6-11 season last year.

The Bulldogs started out their regular season with three straight wins; they opened the season with a win over East Central 6-4 that was followed by wins over McGregor 17-2 and Barnum 10-5. With that great start the Bulldogs then dropped three games in the row the Bulldogs lost to Two Harbors 8-5, that was followed by a one run loss to Moose Lake Willow River 12-11, and the third loss was a 9-3 loss to Esko.

The Bulldogs have won two of their last three games including an 8-4 victory of previously unbeaten Bertha Hewitt. Carlton lost to Cook County last Saturday as the Vikings shut out the Bulldogs 10-0, the Bulldogs regrouped with a 6-2 victory over Hinckley-Finlayson.

The Bulldogs have a strong balance of youth and experience as they are led by seniors: Caleb Hatfield, Calvin Wolf, Jordan Thompson, Adam Schmitz, Spencer Thorman and Ben Rapp. Juniors Joey Broneak and Zac Anderson along with Sophomores Chaise Jokinen and Marcus Shoberg.

Carlton will be looking to make a run as they head into May and the playoffs and make a run at the section 7A title. With Nine games in the books, the Bulldogs have nine games remaining over the next three weeks.
