Barnum Boys head basketball coach Richard Newman has been selected to coach in the Minnesota Coaches Basketball Association All-Star Series. This is the 28th year of the MBCA All-Star Series.

Forty of the state’s outstanding senior boys basketball players will compete in this annual Minnesota High School All-Star basketball series. Doubleheaders will be played Friday, April 9th at Halenbeck Hall on the campus of St. Cloud State University and Saturday, April 10th at Leonard Center on the campus of Macalester College in St. Paul.

Friday’s event will be tipped off by a contest between the Blue and Gold teams at 7:00 p.m. The Maroon and Green teams will culminate the evening’s activities with an 8:45 p.m. contest. Saturday’s schedule will include games at 2:15 p.m. and 4:00 p.m. Three point shooting and dunk contests will precede each of the games on both dates.

Newman will be joined on the bench by his long time assistant Mike Carlson. Newman will coach the Maroon squad and will feature four players that were named to the Associated Press All-State teams, including Dyami Starks of Duluth East.

Cloquet’s Chad Calcaterra will also take part in this all star series. He will be playing on the Blue Team under the direction of Coach Jeff Evens of Bloomington Jefferson. Mark Hoge of Crosby-Ironton and Martin Wind of Cass Lake-Bena are the other representatives from northern Minnesota.
