The Cloquet-Esko-Carlton girls hockey team got a much needed win over Superior on Tuesday.  The Jacks, who have struggled to score goals this season, beat the Spartans 4-2 in a matinee game that was played at 3pm.

Rachel Macaulay, who scored two goals, got the Jacks on the board first with a goal at 6:40 of the first period with assists to Alysha Anderson and Lexi Robideaux to make it 1-0 in the first period.  Mikayla Baker made it 15:32 of the first period on a power play with Macaulay assisting and the Jacks took a 2-0 lead after one period.

Superior’s Emma Peterson cut the Jacks lead to 2-1 with a goal at 8:44 of the second period, but CEC answered with a goal by Kailey Buhr at 11:01 with Baker and Makayla Langenbrunner chipping in with assists.  CEC led it 3-1 after two periods.

Macaulay scored her second goal of the game at 12:03 of the third period with an assist by C.J. Stoyanoff to push the Jacks lead to 4-1.  Tina Lumdal cut the Jacks lead to 4-2 just 24 seconds after Macaulay’s goal, but that would be all the closer the Spartans would get.

Sydnee Heitala made 18 saves for the Jacks to get the win in goal, while Justine Stenberg finished with 33 saves for the Spartans.
