The Moose Lake-Willow River Rebels knew entering Tuesday’s contest against Cook County would be a battle. That’s exactly what is was as the Rebels got the win in Grand Marais by a score of 6-5.

ML-WR got on the scoreboard first as they scored one run in the top of the first inning, but Cook County would answer right back with four runs of their own, leading 4-1 after one complete
inning. The Rebels would then chip away at the Viking lead, scoring runs in the next three innings to tie the score at 4-4.

The score would remain that way until the top of the seventh inning when, with runners on second and third with two outs, Spencer Clough came up with a huge two run single to give the Rebels a 6-4 lead going into the bottom of the seventh. Cook County would make it close. They had scored one run and had two runners on base with only one out when Michael Unzen entered the game in relief and got the final two outs to preserve the win for Moose Lake-Willow River.

Rudy Ketchum was the winning pitcher, pitching 6 1/3 innings and giving up five runs, while striking out five Viking batters. Unzen was credited with the save. Dan Anderson was 3-4 from the plate and drove in 2 runs. Hayden Hoffman was 2-4 with two doubles and Rajean Carlson added 2 hits in the Rebel win.

The Rebels improve their record to 6-1 on the season and will travel to Two Harbors on Thursday to take on the Agates in a Polar League match up. The Vikings fall for the first time this season, now making
their record 6-1. They will play at home against Esko on Thursday.
