Lady Rebels Skate Past Spartans

Andrea Youngberg’s shorthanded goal at 6:35 of the first period seemed to ignite the Moose Lake Area girls hockey team on Tuesday night.  The Rebels pounced on Superior for three first period goals on their way to a 7-2 thumping of the Spartans.

Jessica Paul assisted on the Youngberg goal and at 8:28 it was Jessica Bird making it 2-0 with an assist to Kiersten Evenson.  Superior cut the lead to 2-1 at 11:04, but the Rebels answered at 13:45 on a goal by Karina Cisar to make it 3-1 after the opening period.

MLA added two more tallies in the second period at 5:02 and at 6:22 from Asia Gobel and Cisar respectively to make it 5-1 after two periods.

Superior cut the MLA lead to 5-1 just 49 seconds into the third period on a goal by Emma Peterson, her second goal of the game, but the Rebels answered with back-to-back goals by Bird and Youngberg.  Bird’s goal was assisted by Gobel and Youngberg and Youngberg’s goal was assisted by Jessica Bird and Jamie Bird and was a shorthanded effort.

MLA goalie Maddy Gamst recorded 14 saves on 16 shots and Spartan goalie Justine Stenberg recorded 26 saves on 33 shots.
