Jacks fall in Overtime

A late goal by CEC forward Koby Bender gave the Cloquet-Esko-Carlton boys hockey team a chance to send the game into overtime on Tuesday night against rival Grand Rapids.  However, the Thunderhawks managed a power play goal in the extra session by Avery Peterson and Grand Rapids came out with a 5-4 overtime victory over the Jacks.Hunter Roberts gave CEC a 1-0 lead at 11:07 of the first period with a power play goal that was assisted by Nick Niemi.

Before the period ended the Thunderhawks tied the game on a goal by Coleton Anderson at 15:23.The Thunderhawks scored back-to-back goals to start the second period to go up 3-1.  The first goal was just 31 seconds into the period when Alex Adams scored on the power play and the second was scored by Daulton Anderson at 3:53.

However, CEC answered with a pair of goals of their own prior to the period ending.  Christian Pritchett scored at 5:32 with assists to Dalton Johnson and Derek Bloom and then at 9:54, on the power play, it was Dylan Johnson scoring from Dalton Johnson and Pritchett to make it 3-3.Grand Rapids took a 4-3 lead at 1:39 of the third period when Mitchell Mattson tucked a shot into the CEC net, but again the Jacks bounced back when Bender knotted the score with 2:03 remaining in regulation setting up overtime and the eventual game winner by Peterson.

CEC goalie Zack Strom finished with 26 saves on 31 shots, while Hunter Shepard record 29 saves on 33 CEC shots.

The loss drops CEC to 5-10-1.
