The Moose Lake-Willow River Rebels’ season came to an end Saturday night when the Tigers of Rush City beat them 55-52. This was the second time this season the Rebels have lost to the Tigers. Rush City overcame the Rebels by 11 the first game of the season in the beginning of December.

Rush City used a balanced scoring attack and jumped out to an early first half lead of 30-23. The Rebels fought back in the second half to come ahead at 44-42, but in the end it was the Tigers holding off the Rebels to win this sectional playoff game.

The Tigers’ win propels them into the section semi-finals where they will face the Virginia Blue Devils, who beat Eveleth-Gilbert to advance to the next round.

The Rebels were led in scoring by Lucas Probst with 12 points, Austin Jacobson and Trevor Nummela each added 11, Taylor Mattison scored 9, Ryan Adamczak ended with 5, and Caleb Koecher finished with 4 points in the Rebels loss.

The Tigers were led by Garrett Churchsmith and Jon Watts; both scored 12 points. Joe Kane added 10, Austin Otterness ended with 8, Jason Olson chipped in with 7, Justin Bosman added 6 point in the win. The Tigers improve to 25-2 on the season overall.

The Rebels close out the 2009-2010 season with an overall record of 20-8.
