Northern Stars shut out Jacks

The Duluth Northern Stars scored three first period goals en route to a 5-0 shutout victory Saturday afternoon over the Lumberjacks of CEC at Northwoods Credit Union Arena, as the Northern Stars picked up their fourth consecutive win Saturday.

UMD recruit Alexia Klaas put the Northern Stars on the scoreboard first at the 2:47 mark of the period to give the Stars a 1-0 lead. Christina Enright made it 2-0 about six minutes later and Ava Meyer made it 3-0 before the first period ended.

Abby Laflamme scored an unassisted goal in the second period for the only goal of the period and Enright tallied her second goal of the game late in the third period to give Duluth the shutout road win.

Kaylen Hendrickson was the winning goalie for the Stars as she stopped all 20 shots she faced in the win, and Stacey Nelson of Cloquet-Esko-Carlton stopped 24 of the 29 shots she faced Saturday afternoon.

The Stars improve to 7-7-1 on the season and they will host Hibbing-Chisholm on Tuesday night at the Heritage Center. The Lumberjacks fall to 4-9-2 and they were supposed to face Superior on Monday but that game has been postponed due to the weather.
