Fox Captures First In Timberwolves Invite

Carlton’s Erika Fox took home 1^st place in the Ely Timberwolves Invite Saturday at Hidden Valley Trails in Ely. Fox a freshman from Carlton took home first place with a time of 22:10 41 seconds better then Anna Johnson who finished second from Mesabi Range.

Fox’s first place finish wasn’t enough to propel Cloquet-Esko-Carlton to a team victory as the Lumberjacks finished 3rd overall. Duluth East was the team winner with 379 points for a team total. Mesabi East was second with 378, Ely was fourth with 344, and Proctor/Hermantown was fifth with 254 points.

Duluth East’s Ashley Herman finished third overall, while her teammates Haley Brock was sixth, Steph Curran was seventh, and Sophie Farrow was ninth. Hannah Bettendorf of Proctor-Hermantown was 11^th in the standings, and CEC next best finisher after Fox was Anja Maijala who was 15^th. Duluth Denfeld’s top finisher was Myra Stauber who placed 26^th on the afternoon.

The Greyhound boys captured first place on the boy’s side with 380 points, Mesabi East was second with 373, Proctor/Hermantown was third, Ely finished fourth and Cloquet-Esko Carlton was fifth overall.

Sam Johnson won the boys event with a time of 18:30 37 seconds ahead of Duluth East skier Keaton Long. The Greyhounds Henry French was third. Sam Olson and Zach Smith were 5^th and 6^th for Proctor/Hermantown. CEC’s tops finisher was Nolan Ripp who finished 24^th.
