The Mustangs used a 23-1 shots on goal advantage and a five minute power play in the early going of the first period to notch a 3-0 lead which would stand the rest of the game Friday night.

The Rebels who were coming off their first win in 35 games with a 7th place finish in the North Shore Tournament played even with the Mustangs for 2 1/2 periods but the three goal onslaught to start the first period was too much to overcome.

Head Coach Joe McDonnell stated “that first 9 minutes was so hard to overcome the penalty and us sort of flat footed we never recovered although we played dead even after that.”

“We are so young” McDonnell told Northland Sports Online, “these kids are believing more and more every game and their confidence is building, they played hard and they never quit.”

Gage Mohelsky stopped 44 of the 47 shots he faced Friday night and the Rebels fall to 1-9 on the season. The Rebels will be back in action Tuesday night when they travel to Pine City to face the Dragons in a Two Rivers Conference match-up.
