Lady Jacks Stopped By Lions Second Half Shooting

The hosting Cloquet Lady Lumberjacks stumbled when they came out in the second half and lost to the Lions of Providence Academy by a score of 49-34. The Lions came out in the second half to pull away, spoiling senior night for the Cloquet Lumberjacks.


The Lions opened to an early lead in the first half, leading 16-6 midway through. Cloquet mounted a comeback over the final few minutes, cutting the lead down to two points. The Lions took a 18-16 lead into the locker room at the break.


The Lions once again showed their outside shooting ability by putting up an amazing 65% in the last half alone to cruise to the easy win on Thursday. Taylor Finley hit 5 out of 5 three-pointers to pace the Lions with 15 points on the night.


Cloquet continued to battle in the second half, but wasn’t able overcome the hot shooting of the Lions. Providence Academy built at 48-28 lead with just two minutes to play and that was the end of the Lumberjacks hopes.


Annabel Morrisroe led the Lumberjacks with 13 points on the night. Katie Pappas added 10 points and Brianna Henagin scored 8 points. Sarah McMillen had 2 points and Krista Schmitz finished with 1.


Finley paced the Lions with 15 points. Ann Healy and Nicole Frogner both added 8 points and Jenna Brady finished with 7 points. The Lions finish their regular season with an overall record on 19-6 and begin Section 4AA playoffs on Thursday night.


The Lumberjacks fall to 10-15 on the season andlfinish up their regular season Friday night when the play at International Falls. They start section play next Tuesday night.
