The Floodwood Polar Bears took advantage of Carlton’s foul trouble and injuries to win the Polar League match up in Carlton on Thursday night. The Polar Bears ended up winning by a score of 65-51.

Floodwood came out strong in the first half, building a lead of 14 points. However, the Bulldogs fought back, cutting the deficit to ten at a 31-21 mark at the break. Floodwood came out strong and fast in the second half, using their speed and quickness to gain a lead of 26 points late in the second half.

Carlton fought back, but in the end it was not enough, eventually losing by 14 at home. The Bulldogs battled, showing their will. Yet, they couldn’t match up down the stretch with the foul trouble and injuries. “The girls played hard,” head coach Lisa Johnson told Northland Sports Online. “We are not as deep as Floodwood so when we have foul trouble and a few key injuries it makes it hard. We hope to be healthy as the playoffs start next week.” Johnson mentioned that she thought Carlton and Floodwood could meet a second time in the section playoffs.

Carlton falls to 9-16 on the season and close out regular season play Friday night at Silver Bay. The Bulldogs were led in scoring Thursday night by Sarah Aili with a game high of 23 points in the loss. Clarissa Nelson scored 9 points, Lindsey-Dahl Holm added 6 points, Katie Bloom, Brooke Camps, and Hallie Raisanen all had 4, and Savannah Schramm ended with 1 point.
