Steen Leads Lumberjacks Past Tigers

The Cloquet Lumberjacks would welcome the Browerville Tigers to town for the Wood City Classic Tournament. The Tigers came into the night with a perfect 5-0 record, but the Lumberjacks had plans to ruin their perfect season and they would grab the 67-58 victory over the Tigers.

The Lumberjacks held a 33-25 lead at the half, but Browerville would attempt to make a comeback, but couldn’t come out ahead as the Lumberjacks outscored them 34-33 in the second half, handing the Tigers their first loss on the season.

The Lumberjacks were lead by Kassidy Steen who lead all scorers with 31 points and also pulled down 20 rebounds. Jaiden Cofield would also get a double double of her own, scoring 23 points and notching 10 boards. Kaylee McMillen would score 6 in the win, Hazel Erickson added 5, and Anna Fossen rounded it out with 2.

Browerville would have 4 scorers in double digits as Crystal Pearson scored 22 points, Quinn Kircher added 12, and Paige Callahan and Kendra Buchta each punched in 11.

The Lumberjacks improve to 5-1 on the season and will take on the Watertown-Mayer Royals (5-3) at 4:30 this afternoon.
