Cloquet senior multi-sport athlete Taylor Sautbine has committed to Bemidji State University to participate in track and field. Sautbine advanced to the state track meet individually last year in the 100-meter hurdles. Although she has excelled in the 100-meter hurdles, she was also a member of the 4×200-meter relay team that broke the school record.

Cloquet track coach Tim Prosen is excited about having his senior hurdler compete for one more year telling NSO “Taylor is already about 3.5 seconds ahead of where she was last year at this time.” Sautbine had a personal best time of 16.2 seconds in the 100m hurdles. Prosen also added she “is a gifted athlete, but it’s her dedication that has allowed her to combine her athleticism with technique to be one of the best hurdlers at one of the most difficult events in track”.

Sautbine chose BSU over the University of Minnesota Duluth and Northland College of Ashland. She told NSO “Everyone was very nice. The students were very helpful and made me feel like I was already part of the team.” Sautbine will compete in both the indoor and outdoor programs and intends to continue her hurdling success, while exploring the opportunities college track provides. BSU coach Craig Hougen would like to see his star signee also participate in the pentathlon. This event consists of a running event, hurdle event, high jump, long or triple jump, and javelin throw.

Sautbine’s athletic success has not been limited track and field. She was named All Conference in volleyball her junior and senior years, while collecting an MVP award her senior season. She finished her Lumberjack volleyball career with 1305 total set-assists. Sautbine has also been recognized as a second-team all conference selection in basketball for the Lake Superior Conference. She was also selected to the NSO all-area basketball team and participated in the Kernz & Kompany all star basketball game.

Sautbine is undecided on a major; however, she would like to explore the prospect of becoming a physical therapist or veterinarian. NSO would like to congratulate Taylor on her high school success and wish her luck with her college endeavors.
