DC’s Diamond Notes One Shining Moment

Well, I want to first say thank you to Wes Vork who has decided to make a commitment to our area in putting forth an excellent idea that he and Kerry Rodd came up with. It is my fortune to be included in this idea. I am having a great time working and writing for Northland Sports Online and I see things getting only bigger and better.

A recent study by the University of Washington it showed that the average person spends 19.5 hours per week online. The 19.5 hours is time spent surfing the web, emailing, and getting news and information, according to the study. The top three categories in the study show that newspapers are a dying breed. The internet age is upon us and the future is here. So with Wes and Kerry, I have been asked to come along on a wonderful ride with Northland Sports Online.

For those of you who do not know me, I have lived in Cloquet all my life. I have been what people call a sports nut all of my life. I have participated in sports, which I will have stories about in the future, but for now, I would like to discuss this past sports season ending. Many may or may not know I broadcast games for WKLK/WMOZ radio. I have been doing this now for several years and I have developed many wonderful friendships with coaches, players, parents, and fans.

Several years ago I also wrote for the Pine Knot here in town and now Wes has ask me to revive ‘DC’s Diamond Notes’ once again. Some stories will be funny, some will make you think, some will just pass on information, but I hope everyone who reads them will enjoy what I write.

As the Basketball All-Star games end and March Madness ends, it brings to close another basketball season. I was treated to some outstanding memories I will have forever. I will remember the Barnum Girls undefeated regular season and their outstanding playoff run.

We welcomed new coaches Jeff Ojanen, Scott Antonutti, Neil Dickinson, and Stepf Sklors. I was able to see Chad Calcaterra, Jes Vork, Joey Bohaty, Hillary Peterson, and Katrina Newman all reach 1000 points. I will also remember broadcasting at Williams Arena and seeing Cloquet great Debbie Hunter’s banner high above the floor. I will not forget seeing another year of player’s graduate, the sadness when their season comes to an end, but the realization life for them moves on to bigger and better things. These are some of the things that make it such a great time of the year.

When Monday night’s NCAA game ended and ‘One Shining Moment’ was played on CBS, for a moment as they flashed back though scenes of the tournament, I also looked back at everything positive for the winter sports season and I say thank you as we move ever so quickly into the spring.
