NSO area basketball recap for Friday, February 5

Boys Basketball

Tower-Soudan 62 AlBrook 60 (OT)

Barnum 44 ML-WR 38

The Barnum Bombers kept the score low and got the 44-38 upset win in Moose Lake. Nick White and Taylor Carlson led the Bombers in scoring with 12 points each. With the win, Barnum is 14-3 on the season, while the Rebels record is now 13-6.

Esko 56 Cromwell 53

In a tight game that featured nine ties, Jackson Lindquist hit a three-pointer as time expired to give the Eskomos a 56-53 road win. Both teams had three players in double figures. Jake Stainbrook led all scorers with 22 points.

Hermantown 66 Denfeld 55

The Hawks overcame a 3 point, 31-28 halftime deficit to win the LSC contest by 11. Colten Zacharias and Michael Swartz led the Hawks with 16 and 15 points respectively. C.J. Ham had a great game, leading Denfeld and all scorers with 21 points in a losing effort.

Wrenshall 54 Carlton 52

The Wrens avenged an earlier 54-37 loss and picked up their first win of the season by beating the Bulldogs 54-52 at home on Friday. David Connor scored 17points and Bryce Schmidt scored 16 for Wrenshall in the win. Jake Adams led Carlton and all scorers with 23 points.

Girls Basketball

Cloquet 59 Marshall 31

The Lady Jacks picked up their fourth win in the last six games Friday by beating Duluth Marshall 59-31 at home on senior night. Annabel Morrisroe led the Jacks with 18 points. Cloquet will now face Grand Rapids on Friday in a rematch of last year’s Section 7AAA semi-finals.

Denfeld 61 Hermantown 57

Sarah Fleissner and Jesse Havron each scored 19 points, helping the Hunters get the 61-57 road win against Hermantown. The Hawks were led by Jessica Love with 14 points.

Superior 66 Proctor 30

The Rails fell behind 33-16 at the half and could not dig themselves out, losing the LSC matchup by 36 at home on Friday. Bettye Jo Nelson had a big night, scoring 28 points for Superior. Lindsey Verhel led Proctor with 13 points
