If high school sports are all about improving throughout the year and playing your best ball at playoff time, the Cloquet Lady Lumberjacks appear to be right on track. Although the young team started the season a bit slow and have a 7-10 overall record, they have been playing pretty good ball as of late. The latest being a 59-31 home win over Duluth Marshall. Since the Christmas break, Cloquet has a winning record (5-4), has recorded back to back wins twice and lost to a good Hermantown team by just two points.

While Friday’s game against Duluth Marshall was a bit sloppier than some would like, the Jacks took care of business by building a 33-11 halftime lead and never looking back in the 59-31 win.

For the game, Cloquet had three players in double figures: Annabel Morrisroe with 18, Katie Pappas with 14, and Brianna Henagin with 11, including two three pointers. Others scoring for the Jacks were Mary Keller and Kenzie Rathe with 4, Kialee Kutter with 3, Jenna Beaupre and Carrie Zeadow with 2 points each. Rounding out the Cloquet scoring was Claire Rosen with 1 point.

Leading Duluth Marshall were Julianna McDonnell, Haley Little, and Asha Urban, all of who had six points.

Cloquet will be off until Friday when they host the Grand Rapids Thunderhawks in a rematch of last year’s section semi-finals. Duluth Marshall hosts Eveleth-Gilbert on Tuesday.
