The Cloquet Lumberjacks were bested by the Bemidji Lumberjacks Thursday night in Bemidji. A game in which both teams had many opportunities, it was the Bemidji Lumberjacks coming away with the three point win.


Bemidji jumped out to an early first half lead, leading 15-8 midway through the first half. However, Cloquet battled back, trailing by only two points 30-28 at halftime. This game see-sawed with both teams taking the lead several times within the game.
There were twelve lead changes and six ties throughout this contest.

Cloquet jumped out to a fast start in the second half, taking the lead from Bemidji at 33-30. Bemidji also fought back to retake the lead. Both teams saw their lead appear and disappear throughout the game. There were seven lead changes in the second half and Bemidji capitalized on taking the last lead and coming away with the win. Cloquet saw Bemidji shoot 44% from the field, while Cloquet only shot 36% for the game. This was the difference between winning and losing.


Cloquet was led by Tim Defoe, who finished with 17 points on the night. RaRa Jones poured in 12 points and added 12 rebounds for Cloquet. Chad Calcaterra added 11 points, Peter LaCourse scored 6 points, and Connor Stowell added 5 points. Rounding out the Cloquet scoring was Andy Wappes with 4 points. Bemidji’s Carey Woods led all scorers with 27 points, while Grant Richardson and Ryan Rude both added 8 points in the win.


Cloquet falls to 12-5 on the season. The loss ends their 5 game win streak. Cloquet plays at Duluth East next Thursday night. Bemidji improves to 10-4 on the season and will be in action again next Thursday when they host Moorhead.
