NSO area basketball recap for Thursday, January 28

Boys Basketball

Bemidji 58 Cloquet 55

Bemidji’s Carey Woods scored a game high of 27 points Thursday in order to help the Bemidji Lumberjacks down the Cloquet Lumberjacks by three points. Cloquet was led by Tim Defoe, who scored 17 points on the night.

Duluth East 80 Hermantown 66

Dyami Starks scored a game high of 29 points and teammate Johnny Woodard added 24 as the Greyhounds won at home over the Hawks. Michael Swartz led Hermantown in scoring with 14 points in the loss.

Eveleth-Gilbert 45 Proctor 34

Proctor held a one point half time lead, but couldn’t withstand the Golden Bears second half comeback, falling to E-G on Thursday in Eveleth. John Overly led Eveleth-Gilbert with 15. The Proctor Rails were led by Anders Vos with 11.

Girls Basketball

Barnum 61 Esko 41

Katrina Newman scored 23 points Thursday night as the Bombers downed the Eskomos to take firm control of the Polar League standings. Katie Myhre had five three pointers for Barnum on the night. Savanna Trapp and Keely Deadrick both finished with 12 for Esko.

Cromwell 56 McGregor 53

Cromwell’s Arianna Korpela scored 19 points which put her over 1,000 points for her career. The Cardinals beat the McGregor Mercuries at home Thursday in this Polar League contest. Korpela hit six three-pointers for Cromwell.

AlBrook 60 Cotton 37

The AlBrook Falcons picked up a needed win on Thursday night as they beat the Cardinals by 23 points at AlBrook High School. The Falcons were coming off of seven straight losses and this was a big Saint Louis County Conference win at home.

Floodwood 65 Carlton 47

Alyssa Autio scored a game high of twenty points Thursday as the Polar Bears rolled to the conference win at home. Floodwood built a ten point half time lead and Carlton could never get any closer in the second half. Sarah Aili led Carlton with 18 points.

Eveleth-Gilbert 41 Proctor 33

The Golden Bears mounted a nine point half time lead and defeated the Rails by eight in this non-conference game at home. Josie Delich led all scorers with 14 for Eveleth-Gilbert. Abbey Lundeen scored 12 for Proctor.

Cook 103 Wrenshall 22

The Little Gophers built a big first half lead Thursday night and never looked back as they defeated the hosting Wrenshall Wrens by 79. Cook has now won six games in a row, while Wrenshall falls to 0-16.
