Seeding for the upcoming Section 7AA girls hockey playoffs should be interesting again this season. Last year, Cloquet-Esko-Carlton took the #3 seed and ended up winning the section title. After beating Duluth last night it appears as if the Jacks will again end up the #3 seed this season.

Nicole Lund made sure the Jacks only needed one goal in the win by keeping the Stars off the board with a strong performance in the nets for CEC.

There was no scoring in the first period of last night’s 2-0 win for CEC over Duluth. The Jacks finally broke the ice with a goal in the second and an insurance goal in the third period to take the win and solidify a top three seed for the tournament.

The Lumberjacks finally scored at 2:41 of the second period on a 5-on-3 power play when Melissa Clark rammed home the goal with assists going to Carley Esse and Jessie Ryan.

The Jacks scored again in the third period, this time on a goal by Emily Gustafson with assists from Kelsey Woods and Megan Nelson and the lead went to 2-0. That would be all the Jacks would need as goaltender Nicole Lund slammed the door the rest of the way. Lund made 22 saves in recording the shut out, while Duluth goalie Paige Turner finished with 19 saves.
