The Barnum Bombers were back at full strength for only the second time in almost a month. It paid off Tuesday night as the second ranked Barnum Bombers defeated the eleventh ranked Braham Bombers in Barnum 69-66.

Currently ranked second in the last Class A girls basketball polls, Barnum showed Braham, the 11th ranked team in Class AA, that they are back as they cruised to the three point win.

Barnum jumped out to an early lead in the first half, working the give-and-go with Katrina Newman to perfection.
Sarah Myhre’s hot outside shooting also helped Barnum build a 14 point, 29-15 lead late into the first half. The Braham Bombers did not quit, however, Thye finished strong in the first half and outscored Barnum 13-3 to Barnum’s lead to four at halftime (32-28).

“They are the real deal,” head coach Randy Myhre told Northland Sports Online. “They have two really outstanding players in the Dahlman sisters. They are one of the top teams in northern Minnesota and they are very deep and talented.” Braham sports a younger team than Barnum with freshman Rebekah Dahlman and her junior sister Hannah Dahlman leading the Braham Bombers.

The second half saw both teams making small runs back and forth. Barnum built a twelve point lead midway through the second half, but Braham continued to fight back and closed to within three points in the final seconds. Leah Nordvall hit crucial free throws down the stretch to have Barnum hang on for the three point win.

Barnum’s Katrina Newman led all scorers with 31 points on the night. Sarah Myhre added 14 points, Katie Myhre scored 8, Leah Nordvall and Jenna Zymslony each had 7 in the win, and Jessica Newman finished the scoring with 2 points. Hannah Dahlman scored 21 for Braham, Rebekah Dahlman finished with 14 and Katie Nickles added 12 in the loss.

Barnum improves to 14-2 on the season and will host Esko on Thursday. Braham falls to 13-4 and are in action on Friday when they play at home against Pine City.
