St. Thomas Tops Marshall

St. Thomas Academy opened their new season in a new class and they proved why they are one of the top programs in the state as the Cadets knocked off Duluth Marshall Saturday afternoon 5-2 on a non conference contest in St. Paul.

Both teams played a scoreless first period but a three goal second period sparked the Cadets to the win at home after seeing Marshall score first on a goal from John McKenna. Jack Dodd assisted on the goal which put Marshall in front 1-0.

The lead however was short lived as the Cadets scored the games next 4 goals before Marshall could notch another goal this time from Derek Farrell and Joe Daly had the Marshall assist.

Marshall could no closer after the Farrell goal as St. Thomas scored another goal this time to make it 5-2 and that’s how the game would finish. Alex Murray finished with 30 saves for the Hilltoppers while Charlie Hallett had 16 for St. Thomas Academy.

St. Thomas will be back in action next Saturday when they host Holy Angels and Marshall will look to pick up their first win of the season when they host Cloquet-Esko-Carlton Tuesday night at Mars Lakeview Arena.
