Wrenshall Opens Season with Victory

Wrenshall stops McGregor

The Wrenshall Wrens opened their 2013 season with a win at home Friday night over conference rival McGregor by a score of 65-46, in a boys basketball match-up.

The Wrens started fast and built up a twenty point half time lead as the Wrens led 42-22 at the break. Marcus Virginia finished with 22 points to lead all scorers for Wrenshall, and Virginia also hit two three-pointers in the victory.

The Wrens also saw Jarred Kittle, Aaron Adkins, and Luke Vine all finish in double figures on the night. Kittle scored 13, while Adkins and Vine had 12 & 10 points respectively. Andrew Frank added 6 points and Jessie Ellerbee added 2 in the win.

The Mercuries were led by William Staska who had 13 points in the loss, Layne Sprague add 9, Jordan Mickelson finished with 8 as did Auston Anderson, while Cole Gelhar and Cole Hoover both chipped in with 4 points.

The Wrens start the season 1-0 and they will travel to Duluth Monday night to face Duluth Marshall in a non conference match-up. The Mercuries start their season 01- and they will be back in action again on Tuesday when they will play at South Ridge.
