In
wild and foul-filled game in Cloquet on Saturday night, the Lumberjacks managed to pull away from the Hermantown Hawks for an 80-63 win. Astoundingly, almost as many fouls were called as there were rebounds.
Forty-eight personal fouls were given, with twenty-nine of them from the aggressive Hermantown team.

The Cloquet Lumberjacks jumped out to an early lead in the first half, up by ten when Connor Stowell hit a three point shot. However, the Hawks battled back to cut the lead to one by half time, leaving Cloquet ahead 31-30 going in to the locker room.

Cloquet came out early in the second half and quietly built a twelve point, 48-36 lead after going on a 17-6 run. Hermantown, however, would not give the game up easily as they continued to battle back and cut the Cloquet lead down to seven at 57-50. The Lumberjacks continued to work the ball inside to Chad Calcaterra, along with utilizing Tim Defoe’s outside shooting and drives to the basket, to bring them to the 17 point win.

Calcaterra led Cloquet in scoring with 26 points, followed by Defoe with 20, Andy Wappes added 11, Zach Zezulka 8, Ben Shultz 6, Connor Stowell 5, and RaRa Jones finished with 4 points in the win. Cory Kucza scored a game high of 28 points in the loss for Hermantown. Michael Swartz had 16 and Colton Zacharias finished with 11 for the Hawks.

Cloquet improves to 9-4 on the season and will be in action again on Tuesday when they host Duluth Marshall. The Hermantown Hawks fall to 8-8 on the season and play at Duluth Denfeld on Tuesday night.
