NSO area weekend basketball recap for Jan 15 and 16

Boys Basketball

Hill City 68 AlBrook 63

The AlBrook Falcons fell to the Hornets of Hill City at AlBrook High School on Friday night. The win by the Hornets snapped the Falcons five game winning streak. With the win, the Hornets their record at 5-5, while the AlBrook Falcons fall to 5-3 on the season.

Barnum 68 Two Harbors 48

The Barnum Bombers led 37-26 at halftime and went on to win by 20 in this Polar League contest in Two Harbors. The Bombers were led by Jacob Naslund, who scored 15 points in the win. Jon Nevala-Plagemann led the Agates with 12.

ML-WR 81 Carlton 52


On Friday night, the Rebels’ Austin Jacobson scored 21 points to assist them to the conference game win in Carlton. ML-WR led by 12 at half and later cruised to the 29 point win. Jake Adams was the game’s leading scorer with 27 points for the Bulldogs.

Esko 65 McGregor 43


Cody Townsend scored a game high of 22 points Friday to lead the Eskomos to the 22 point win over the Mercuries in McGregor. Jackson Lindquist also added 17 points in the Esko win. Elliott Haapoja led the Mercuries with 12 points in the loss.

Crosby Ironton 88 Proctor 27

The Rangers came out big in the first half, building a large halftime lead and then easily cruising to the sixty-one point win at home Friday night. The Rangers currently are ranked fifth in the Minnesota Class AA polls. Proctor falls to 3-8 on the season.

Cromwell 65 Wrenshall 49


Cromwell scored 41 second half points to overcome a three point halftime deficit to win this Polar League battle Friday night held in Wrenshall. Jordan Smith led the Cromwell comeback with 24 points, while Wrenshall’s Aaron Gustafson led all scorers with 29.


New Life Academy 73 Carlton 40

New Life Academy’s Kory Kiekhofer scored a game high of 28 points to help down the hosting Bulldogs in Carlton.
Jake Adams scored 14 points in the Bulldog loss.
The Eagles improve to 5-7 on the season.

Cloquet 80 Hermantown 63


Chad Calcaterra and Tim Defoe combined for 46 points to lead the Lumberjacks to the Lake Superior Conference game win at home on Saturday. In a foul filled contest, 48 total fouls called, the Lumberjacks outscored the Hawks by 16 in the second half.

Virginia 73 Esko 62

Mitch Buck and Cavan Stackpool combined for 44 points Saturday in the Blue Devils Section 7AA over the hosting Eskomos. Adam Eskuri scored a game high of 29 points in the Esko loss. Virginia improves to 11-1 on the season.

Cloquet 66 Proctor 32


Annabel Morrisroe scored a game high of 28 points Friday night, leading the Lumberjacks to the win at home on Friday. Krista Schmitz added 13 points in the Cloquet win and Lindsey Verhel scored 7 points for Proctor.

Northland 46 Cromwell 39

Eagles
trailed by five points at halftime, but came on strong to win this Section 5A match up at Cromwell on Friday night. Kayla Heisler scored a game high of 19 points for Northland. Lisa Peterson scored 12 for the Cardinals.

Pequot Lakes 77 Esko 57

Kylie Beltz led four Patriot players in double figures in the Pequot Lakes win over Esko on Friday. Beltz scored 18 points in the win, while Esko’s Keely Deadrick scored a game high of 24 points in the loss.
