Carlton Boys Get First Win

The Carlton Bulldogs notched their first win of the season Monday night when they downed the Wrenshall Wrens 54-37 in Carlton. The Bulldogs jumped out to a 29-15 halftime lead and went on to win this Polar League match-up by seventeen points.


Carlton opened the first half scoring the first six points of the game, with Allan Davis putting up four of the first six. Wrenshall’s Aaron Gustafson scored on a free throw to put them on the board at 6-1. Carlton then continued to roll in the first half as Mark Shoberg and Matthew Lund combined for 16 first half points, putting the Bulldogs at a fourteen point lead at the halftime break.


Carlton did not rest in the second half, battling hard to hold their lead. Wrenshall continued to pound away as well with Gustafson battling inside to keep Wrenshall close. Jake Adams, however, was the Bulldogs go-to guy, scorring 16 second half points to lead the Bulldogs to the win.


Adams finished with a game high of 23 points for the Bulldogs. Carlton’s Matthew Lund scored 10 points, Marc Shoberg had 9, Allan Davis finished with 7, Mark Nielson had 3, and rounding out the scoring for Carlton was Derek Frear with 2 points.


Gustafson paced the Wrens with 14 points, Tyler Swanson finished with 8, Brett Tyson added 6, Anders Lund finished with 4, David Connor scored 3 and Zach Moder finished with 2 points in the loss.


Carlton moves to 1-14 on the season and are back in action on Saturday when they play at Ogilvie. The Wrens fall to 0-10 on the season and host Silver Bay on Friday night at Wrenshall High School.
