Eskomos Outscore Carlton 9-3 in Boys Baseball

The Esko Eskomos took advantage of good pitching and timely pitching to defeat the Carlton Bulldogs 9-3.Thursday in boy’s baseball. The game played at Chub Lake Field in Carlton, started in t-shirt weather ended cold and blustery as the temperature dropped about 15 degrees in as many minutes when the wind changed.

Esko starting pitcher Steve Lewis pitched a complete game, giving up three hits with 5 walks and 5 strikeouts while being charged with one earned run. Lewis helped his own cause by getting two hits, scoring two runs and used his speed to steal four bases.

Offensively, Ryan Vang who had two hits, reached on an error, and scored three runs led the Eskomos. Mitch Reuer had two singles and 2 RBI’s. Jamie Stokes added a double and an RBI. Matt Tengesdal reached base in all four at bats with a single, two walks and a fielder’s choice. Tengesdal also added 2 RBI’s and scored a run for the Eskomos. Jordan Balow added a double and an RBI while RJ Jubie helped out with a single.

Jordan Thompson who had a single and a double while scoring a run for the Bulldogs led Carlton. Caleb Hatfield also had a single and reached base on an error. Tyler Peterson and Adam Schmitz also scored for Carlton.

Esko extends their record to 4-2 having lost only the games played at the Metrodome while Carlton evens their record to 3-3 with the loss. Esko will host Eveleth-Gilbert next Tuesday. Carlton will be back in action on Saturday when they take on Bertha-Hewitt in the Cook County Tournament.
