The Moose Lake Willow River Rebels had started the season 4-0, and dreamed of a perfect season, but that ended on Friday as they fell to the Hermantown Hawks 16-3.

The Rebels fast start this season came to an end Friday as the Hawks out scored the Rebels by thirteen runs. The Hawks, who had started their season losing their first three games, have now come back strong as they have now won three in a row and evened their record at 3-3.

“We had trouble finding the plate today,” head coach Lyle Halverson told Northland Sports Online. “We walked 14 batters and we hit three batters as well.” “We were right in the game tied at 3-3 going into the sixth but they scored seven runs in the top of the sixth and that was about it.” Halverson stated. “We hit into three double plays as well, not taking advantage of our chances. “ Hermantown would another six runs in the top of the seventh as the game got out of hand.

The Hawks scored three runs in the top of the first inning to lead 3-0; Moose Lake Willow River would come back in the bottom of the third to tie the game at 3-3. It stayed that way until the Hawks exploded in the sixth inning.

Rajean Carlson went 4-5 for the Rebels in the loss and Spencer Clough continued his hot hitting as he finished 2-3 on the afternoon. The Rebels now fall to 4-1 on the season and they will be in action next on Monday when they play Duluth Marshall at UMD.
