Dropping the past three games, it could be said that the Moose Lake-Willow River Rebels were going through a rough stretch.
Their luck changed on Tuesday night when they beat Proctor. Then on Thursday night they made it back to back wins when they knocked off the Carlton Bulldogs 48-33.

The Rebels jumped out to an early nine point lead at 15-6 behind some great inside play from Peggy Stephan and Taryn Davis. Yet, Carlton would not go away, coming back and tying the game at 18-18 behind Hallie Raisanen who had the hot hand for the Bulldogs. With three minutes left in the first half though, the Rebels shut down Carlton and went on a 5-0 run to close out the half, leading 23-18 at the break.

The Rebels came out strong in the second half with Maddy Adamczak and Davis again leading the Rebels with a strong inside game. Carlton had a few small runs in to the Rebels, but could not sustain it as the Rebels end this one winning by fifteen. “The girls learned tonight you have to play all out at all times,” head coach Andrew Miller told Northland Sports Online. “We had a nice early lead in the first half and we sort of took it easy thinking we had the game won, but give Carlton credit they didn’t quit and we took a lot away from this game tonight.”

The Rebels were led in scoring by Adamczak, who finished with 17 points on the night. Davis added 12 points, Stephan chipped in with 8, Kathryn Coil scored 7 and Natasha Dragicevich ended with 4 points in the Rebels win. The Rebels improve to 8-5 on the season and will be in action again next Tuesday when they play at Eveleth-Gilbert.

With the loss, the Bulldogs fall to 5-7 on the season. They were led by Hallie Raisanen and Katie Bloom, both of who had 8 points. Clarissa Nelson scored 7, Savannah Schramm added 4, while Sarah Aili and Lindsey Dahl-Holm both added 3 points in the loss. Carlton is in action again on Saturday when they face New Life Academy at home.
