How big was Moose Lake Area’s 5-4 win over Northern Lakes on Tuesday night in boys hockey? Flashback to December 14th when the Rebels lost 4-1 to Northern Lakes and took one of their 3 losses on the season. Playing without one of their key forwards, the Rebels willed their way to a big win over Northern Lakes on Tuesday night.

Trailing 1-0 in the first period, the Rebels evened things when Zach Cisar found Tyler Cisar open for a feed on the power play at 7:56 and that is how the first period came to a close.

MLA took a 2-1 lead at 8:14 of the second period on another Tyler Cisar power play goal with assist going to Zach Cisar and Spencer Clough. Unfortunately for the Rebels, the lead didn’t hold up. Northern Lakes responded with a pair of goals before the end of the period to garner a 3-2 lead coming out of the second period.

Ville Mattila got the Rebels going with a spectacular shorthanded goal at 1:56 of the third period, but again Northern Lakes took a the lead at 4-3 when they scored at 7:28 of the final period. That goal seemed to spark the Rebels into a frenetic pace and at 8:42 it was Chris Gassert scoring from Tyler Cisar and Clough to tie the game. The game winner was scored at 13:08 with Mattila rapping a shot past the Northern Lakes goalie with assists to Michael Unzen and Gassert.

MLA had to play without senior Dylan Peterson because he had to sit out a game following a penalty in the Rebels previous game.

Austin Lanoue picked up 18 saves, while the Rebels put 36 shots on the Northern Lakes net.
