Tuesday nights 3-3 tie between Hibbing-Chisholm and Cloquet-Esko-Carlton in boys hockey was about the only solution to a pair of evenly matched hockey teams. In the end the Jacks needed a goal in the late stages of the third period to pull out the tie, but for the most part the teams looked nearly dead even for most of the game.

Hibbing-Chisholm took a 1-0 lead at 4:40 of the first period when Ryan Johnson scored on assists by Marcus Bugliosi and Nick DeCenzo. At 5:51 the Jacks tied the game on a goal by Mark Savage with Paul Johnson and Corbin Morse picking up the assists.

In the second period the Blue Jackets outscored CEC 2-1 and held a 3-2 advantage after the second stanza. At 11:20 it was DeCenzo scoring on a power play giving H-C a 2-1 lead. At 13:15 the Blue Jackets went up 3-1 when Johnson scored his second goal of the game. CEC scored a much needed goal at 14:55 on the power play when Ben Michaud scored on an assist from Paul Ryan to cut the H-C lead to 3-2 entering the final period.

The final period was an even affair until the Jacks finally scored with just 1:08 remaining in regulation to tie the game at 3-3. Sophomore Adam Hanson scored the important goal with Tony Wilcox and senior defender Paul Johnson getting the key assists.

Neither team scored in overtime. Both CEC goalie Boyd Smith and H-C goalie Nathan Tromp, made 30 saves in the game.
