MOOSE LAKE – One more conference game and one more conference win for the Moose Lake Area boys hockey team on Friday night. Playing their third game in five days, this time at home in Riverside Arena, the Rebels defeated Minneapolis East 5-3. East is a cooperative hockey program between Minneapolis Roosevelt, Minneapolis Edison, Minneapolis South and Minnesota Transitions Center.

MLA started out the scoring at the 6:38 mark on a goal by Chris Gassert with Zach Cisar and Michael Unzen adding assists. Minneapolis East surprised the Rebels as they picked up a goal by Alec Kelly just 10 seconds left in the period to tie the end of the first 1-1 with both teams getting five shots on goal.

The second period saw the Rebels take control of the game by outshooting ME 15-9 and outscoring them 2-0. At 3:20 of the second period it was Dylan Peterson scoring a shorthanded tally with Adam Ryan assisting. Less than a minute later the Rebels went up 3-1 when Hayden Hoffman converted a pass from Zach Cisar for a goal.

ME fought back to within 5-2 at 12:38 into the third period on a goal by Jack Kelly on the power play, but Adam Ryan’s previous back-to-back goals for the Rebels at 6:35 and 14:20 had already put the game away.

For the game, the Rebels outshot ME by a 29-21 margin with Austin Lanoue picking up the win in nets for MLA.

The Rebels are now 5-0 in Two Rivers Conference play, which is good for 10 points. ME is near the middle of the pack in the conference.

With the win, the Rebels overall record jumps to 9-3. MLA had also picked up an 11-3 conference win on Thursday night over Burnett, Wisconsin.
