CEC Boys Fall To Brainerd 4-0

After putting together a nice win streak of five games in December, the Cloquet-Esko-Carlton boys hockey team lost their second straight game on Friday night by a 4-0 score to the Brainerd Warriors on the road in Brainerd.

CEC trailed 1-0 after one period of play despite outshooting the Warriors 11-10 in the period. The lone goal of the opening stanza was scored on the power play by Brainerd’s Matt Pohlkamp at 7:11 of the period, giving the Warriors a 1-0 lead. The goal was scored just six seconds after a CEC penalty for elbowing.

Brainerd scored twice in the second period as they built the lead to 3-0. Both of the Warriors’ goals came in the first two minutes of the period as they had the Jacks reeling. Just 27 seconds into the period it was Bret Jenkins scoring on the power play and then at 1:43 it was Josh Archibald adding another score. The Lumberjacks were out shot in the second period 19-7.

Pohlkamp finished off the scoring for the Warriors with another power play goal at 7:49 of the final period. For the night, the Warriors went 3-for-6 on the power play while the Jacks were 0-for-3 with the man advantage. In all, the Lumberjacks took 23 minutes in penalties to 16 minutes for the Warriors.

CEC goalie John Scheuer was called on to make 36 saves on 40 shots, while Warrior netminder Reid Mimmack made 21 saves on 21 shots.
