ML-WR Splits On Tuesday Night

The Moose Lake-Willow River Rebels spilt their boys and girls doubleheader on Tuesday night against Cook County, in Willow River. The Lady Rebels fell 70-45, while boys prevailed 61-43 in the night cap.


The Lady Rebels and Cook County Vikings started off the game with Cook County jumping out to an early 10-2 lead. After taking a timeout to regroup, the Rebels battled back and both teams went on small runs until late in the first half. With the Vikings leading 22-18, Cook County went on a 16-5 run to take a 38-23 lead at the halftime break.


Several Rebel miscues assisted the Vikings in building a huge lead early in the second half. The Vikings led by as many as 30 points at one point, going on to win by twenty-five. Brea Boomer led the Vikings with 19 points on the night and Maddy Adamczak led the Rebels with a game high of 20.


The Lady Rebels fall to 6-3 on the season and play at McGregor on Thursday. Cook County improves to 8-1 on the season and will face AlBrook at home on Thursday night.


The second game of the night featured the Rebel Boys downing the Vikings 61-43. ML-WR jumped out early and used their good defense and a strong inside game to come away with the eighteen point win.


“The guys have been playing really good,” head coach Neil Dickinson told Northland Sports Online. “They are starting to get comfortable with the new system in place and things are clicking better…Cook County is a good team and this was a nice test tonight as we look to keep playing well.”


The Rebels had ten players reach the scoring column on Tuesday night. Caleb Koecher and Austin Jacobson led the Rebels with 12 points each, Trevor Nummela added 10, Lucas Probst and Rudy Ketchum both added 5, Ryan Adamczak and Jacob Drewlo each pitched in with 4, and Nick Tokar, Tyler Huso and Zach Wohlstrom all finished with 2.


The Rebels improve to 7-3 on the season and host McGregor on Friday night. Cook County falls to 2-4 and will be back in action on Friday night when they host the Carlton Bulldogs.
