Cloquet Boys Upend Central

The Cloquet Lumberjacks met the Duluth Central Trojans Tuesday and came out on top, downing the Trojans 65-47. Playing without senior standout Chad Calcaterra, the Lumberjacks still were able to roll to the 18 point win.


Duluth Central opened up with a fast five point lead, but Cloquet answered right back when Tim Defoe knocked down a three-pointer. After Defoe’s tre, the Lumberjacks led 7-5 and would never trail again. Cloquet maintained a lead between five and nine points most of the first half until Defoe knocked down another three pointer that increased their lead to thirteen. They headed into the locker room at halftime with a 39-26 lead.


The Lumberjacks came out in the second half and expanded their lead to as many as 26 points.
The Lumberjacks clicked offensively on Tuesday, as was their shooting, going almost 52% from the field as a team.


RaRa Jones led the Jacks in scoring with 20 points, Time Defoe added 18, Ben Shultz had a strong game with 13 points, and Andy Wappes finished with 6, Peter LaCourse had 4, while Dane Kiehn and Connor Stowell both ended with 2 apiece.
Wappes also led all rebounders with a game high 10


Darcell Williams paced the Trojans with 14 points, Andrew Laughlin had 7 points and Jodeston Robinson finished with 6 in the loss. Duluth Central falls to 2-7 with the loss and will play at Grand Rapids on Thursday.


The Lumberjacks improve to 6-3 on the season and will take on the Hibbing Bluejackets on Thursday at Hibbing High School.
