Mirage top Bloomington-Jefferson 12-3

The Proctor-Hermantown-Marshall girls hockey team used a sandwich approach to taking a 12-3 win over Bloomington Jefferson on Wednesday at the Burnsville Hockey Tournament. The Mirage scored five goals in the first period and six goals in the third period, sandwiched around one goal in the second period to easily handle the Jaguars.

Both Julie Gilbert and Emma Stauber scored twice in the first period, while Steph Thun also hammered home a goal in the period as the Mirage jumped to a 5-2 lead over Jefferson.

In the second period, it was Steph Strapple scoring for the Mirage and B.J. Cline scoring for the Jaguars as PHM led it 6-3 entering the final period.

The third period was all Mirage as Alyssa Wargin and Niki Mathews had two goals each and Sam Nelson and Justina Lindberg each added one goal.

For the game, the Mirage pounded 45 shots on Jaguar goalie Hannah Vogel, while Anja Morris finished with 23 saves on 26 shots for PHM.

Gilbert finished with a six point night that included two goals and four assists in leading the offense for the Mirage.
