Hermantown Gets Big Win Over Superior

Hermantown grabbed an early lead and then held on for a 4-2 lead over Superior in boys hockey on Tuesday night. The Hawks led 4-1 after two periods as Superior fought hard to try and tie the game in the last stanz,a but fell short.

Chad Bannon gave the Hawks a 1-0 lead at 7:11 of the first period with Willis Kantonen and Connor Hady picking up assists on the power play. The Hawks added another power play tally at 13:57 when Brett Ludwig scored with assists to Jared Kolquist and Bannon, giving Hermantown a 2-0 lead after a period.

In the second period, it was Kantonen scoring at 11:45 as the Hawks built their lead to 3-0. Superior pulled to within 3-1 on a goal by Caleb Dushkin at 11:49, but the Hawks answered back just nine seconds later with a goal from Jared Thomas and an assist to Jesse Dyson.

Dushkin added a goal for Superior at 13:20 of the third period, but by then the game was well in hand for the Hawks.

Tiegen Brickson made 18 saves for Hermantown in goal, while Joel Petitengill had 20 saves for the Spartans.
