CLOQUET – Last season it was Chad Calcaterra scoring 44 points in a 2 point loss to the Blue Devils. Tuesday night Calcaterra scored 42 points against Virginia, with the end result being a 67-55 victory for the Lumberjacks.

Calcaterra had 16 points in the first half. With Virginia triple teaming him frequently, the Lumberjacks had to make some adjustments at half. Those changes obviously worked as he exploded for 26 in the second half, contributing to the Jacks’ twelve-point win at home.

The Lumberjacks, coming off of a big loss to Henry Sibley in Saturday’s Minnesota Breakdown Tip-Off Classic, came out strong in the first half. They built leads of up to twelve points, but the Blue Devils would not go away quietly as they closed the halftime lead to five at 30-25.

Virginia came out strong in the second half and outscored Cloquet 9-2 in the early going to take a 34-32 lead. However, this would be the last lead they had. Cloquet took a timeout to regroup and the Lumberjacks rolled with Calcaterra’s dominating inside game to earn the victory. Calcaterra added 13 rebounds to go with his 42 points on the night.

RaRa Jones followed Calcaterra in scoring with 11 points, Zach Zezulka and Connor Stowell both chipped in with 4, and Tim DeFoe, Peter LaCourse, and Andy Wappes all finished with 2 points each.

Cavan Stackpool led the Blue Devils 22 points, Anthony Perala had 10 points, Nathan Anderson scored 9, Kylor Johnson scored 6, Tyler Wilson, Dan Dible, Mitchel Buck, and Patrick Conaway all had 2.

The Lumberjacks even their record at 2-2 overall and will be in action again on Friday when they host the Proctor Rails. Virginia falls to 2-1 on the season. The Blue Devils are in action on Saturday when they host Greenway.
