The Cloquet Lumberjacks fell behind early by a score of 17-5 Saturday to Henry Sibley and could never mount a comeback, with the final score expanding to 64-38. The Lumberjacks, facing one of the toughest opponents in the state and playing in the Minnesota Breakdown Classic, never managed to get going offensively on the afternoon.

Ranked third in the state’s Class 4A basketball polls,
Henry Sibley
easily waltzed to the twenty-six point win. Henry Sibley came out fast against Cloquet with a 17-5 run to start the 1st half. The Warriors forced the Lumberjacks to turn the ball over several times, giving Henry Sibley some easy transition scores. Henry Sibley would then continue the onslaught, going into the halftime break up 37-16.

Henry Sibley big man Jake Kreuser had a nice first half, scoring seven points with seven rebounds in ten minutes while also helping to hold Chad Calcaterra to one of six shooting in that period. The athletic ability of the Warriors helped force Cloquet into eight early turnovers.

Kreuser was named the player of the game. He scored 11 points total with nine rebounds and a pair of blocks. Jordan Jackson added 12, Dante Grant had 11 and Mike Rostampour led with 13 points and six boards. RaRa Jones led Cloquet with ten points, while Calcaterra finished with eight points, eight rebounds and seven blocked shots.

The Warriors defense did an outstanding job shutting down Calcaterra as he finished 2-13 from the field. Other Lumberjacks scoring Saturday were Tim DeFoe, Andy Wappes, and Peter LaCourse, with each individual dumping in 6 points and Ben Shultz, who finished with 2.

The Lumberjacks fall to 1-2 on the season and will be in action again on Tuesday when they host the Virginia Bluedevils.
