Cloquet Stops Wildcats On Friday

CLOQUET – The Cloquet Lumberjacks played host to the Chisago Lakes Wildcats on Friday night, with the final result being Cloquet’s 55-49 victory. These two teams haven’t played a regular season game against each other in several years, but have renewed the match-up since Chisago Lakes has rejoined
Section 7AAA this season.


The first half was filled with each team making small runs, with one scoring 2-3 baskets in a row and then the other answering backwith their own run. Cloquet’s Chad Calcaterra and Chisago Lake’s Brian Figini would be the main offensive threats Friday night.


The Lumberjacks took a one point lead going into the locker room, leading
21-20 at the break. Both teams came out in the second half and traded baskets in the first few minutes, but it was Calcaterra taking over in the low post with 14 points that would lead the Lumberjacks to the six point win.


Calcaterra finished with 22 points on the night, Peter LaCourse had 11, RaRa Jones finished with 9, Andy Wappes with 8, Tim DeFoe with 3 and Connor Stowell with 2. Figini finned with a game high 27 points for the Wildcats.


Cloquet moves to 1-1 on the season and will be in action Saturday when they play in the Minnesota Breakdown Classic in Minneapolis. The Jacks are scheduled to face the fourth-ranked team in Class 4A, Henry Sibley. Chisago Lakes fall to 1-2 on the season.
